Aida Sulks - conte on cartridge paper
I’ve been going each Tuesday morning to a life drawing group, and we’ve had a terriffic model. Her name is Aida. It helps that she is also an excellent artist in her own right, so she just knows what we are looking for in poses. It’s been a great exercise, but I am anxious to get to painting again.
Went to Carleton Place to check out the new gallery/ art shop there. I plan to submit some work for an exhibition in the spring. It’s a lovely space with old-fashioned tin ceiling, hardwood floors and some lovely bare limestone walls. The name of the gallery is Brushstrokes, it is in the red brick building just beyond the traffic light.

Window Shoppers - oil on canvas - 12″ x 12″
I usually feel the most satisfied when I can get a painting down in a session or two. However that’ s not always possible…some require more time contemplating and then even more time to put in the finishing touches. More and more I like to leave it with only the essence of the idea, and not the whole story. This is a painting that I left alone. It could have been brought to a more completed state…but I chose not to. Rene says I need to try painting everyday…that seems a tall order, but I would like to give it a try at least for a period of time.

Lone Red Boat - oil on board - 12″ x 9″
My brother Chris was here visiting last weekend from Vancouver. We had a great time staying up late and catching up on each others lives, and goings on. He is the designer of my website. He is going to be revamping it soon, to give it a more updated less cottage-y more professional look. Sometimes less really is more, in things like websites. He is the owner of this painting, Lone Red Boat.
I just drove home from Toronto this afternoon. I took my paintings in for a final Jury with OSA, I will find out by the end of the week by mail if it was a successful endeavour. I also had a lovely visit with my daughter Rachel, who lives and works in Port Credit. We went out to dinner and a movie with her flatmate Andrea. We saw “Across the Universe”. It sort of reminded me of a cross between “Moulin Rouge” ,”Forest Gump” and “Romeo & Juliet”…lots of singing and choreography, which can be a little over the top, but overall we did enjoy it, it’s kind of a girly movie though. Dont think my hubby would have loved it.
Yay! I got a letter from the OSA to say that I have been accepted by their preliminary jury! So I am off to Toronto to take some paintings in for the final jury on Sunday Nov. 11. I’m not holding my breath, but i feel glad to be included thus far.
