I am busy getting ready for the upcoming studio tour which takes place Oct 13, 14. My studio will be open to the public, and there is 2 guest artists with me… Kevin Kapler(fused glass) and Heather Sherratt(handweaving). I hope we get reasonable weather for the event. For the past 2 years at studio tour time, it has poured rain.

Kasey & Sally at “The Kingston Prize” gala opening. Oct 4 2007
The Kingston Prize is Canada’s new national portrait competition. It is to follow in the footsteps of other major portrait competitions, such as the Archibald Prize (Australia) and the BP Prize(England). The Kingston Prize only began in 2005…it is a bi-annual competition. The great news is that a major sponsor the W. Garfield Foundation has now come on board with major funding. First Prize now gets $10,000 due to this funding boost. (In 2005 the first prize was only $3000.) Kasey and I had a great time at the gala…viewing all the amazing portraits and chatting with the artists and art supporters.

I’ve been waiting for word from the Portrait Society of Canada to hear if two of my portraits were accepted into the exhibit at the Toronto show. The problem is I sent the submission in way too early…and I’m thinking it may have got lost in the shuffle…or maybe it’s not accepted. time will tell I guess.
