Jasper - watercolour, 7″x5″
I took a gazillion photos on my holidays while out in Alberta in August, but didn’t get much sketching or painting time while I was there…I’ve been using my snapshots as resources, and they’re not great for showing the true colours, photography always seems to deaden and darken everything.
However I was doing a little experimenting with my watercolour colour chart that I made up…I needed a really warm blue to capture the true blue of the glacier rivers….I discovered that cadium orange and winsor blue used together in a wash leaves a lovely warm blue with resonance….I tried it on this small watercolour sketch of the river at Jasper. I like the way it handled. I might give it a try on a 1/2 sheet size painting, ….oh boy I’m asking for it!! But nothing ventured nothing gained.

  1. Oh! This is so gorgeous! It looks like it would make a perfect postcard of the area. Thanks for visiting and your nice comment on my blog–gave me the excuse to hop over for a catch-up visit on yours. Your latest work is just wonderful. I loved the laundry line, one of my favorite subjects.

  2. Hi Sally,
Thanks for the comment on my blog. It wasn’t too complicated to do the “PayPal thingie” on my blog… I was surprised. If you have an account on PayPal you can go copy the html code for whatever version of the button you like, then paste it into your blog post where you want it. I’m hoping my sister can help me refine it so there’s less space between the paintings and the button. We’ll see. I sold paintings on eBay for a year and stopped a year and a half ago. I wish I hadn’t stopped. You have to maintain a presence there to build a host of buyers who watch your work. I’m gearing up to start again, in fact. Bought a 20-shelf drying rack from Jerry’s Artarama on line so I can corral all the wet panels until they dry. I’m not sure I’m up to a painting-a-day, but will try to do 3-5 week. We’ll see about that, too. Thanks for staying in touch with me. I like it!

  3. Hi Jana, thanks for stopping by, and your comments. I also enjoyed your new work, and your little contraption you made for your still life stage!! cool idea!

Susan, thanks for the advice about paypal, I might consider it for my website in the future…something for me to think about. my only worry would be that it might consume more of my time than I would wish. However will see. thanks anyhow.
